On Friday afternoon last, November 4th, St. Cronan’s Association held their annual mass and Certification Day supported by an estimated crowd of 200 parents, guardians, board members, health board representatives, staff and clients.
Patrick Collins (Master of Ceremonies) opened the special day by welcoming Fr. Corbett to the parish and to his inaugural mass at the centre. Fr. Corbett, after celebrating a beautiful mass thanked the organisers for his invitation, paid tribute to the choir and how it interacted beneficially to the mass, recognised the efforts of the recipients and gave a special mention to B. Dunne, B. Kavanagh and C. Danagher who performed the Our Father using LAMH under the direction of one of our staff members Sarah Scully. (sign language for people with learning disabilities).
Clients were excited as we moved onto the awarding ceremonies. This took place in our Gym, which took on a fabulous transformation with the influx of colourful arrays of flowers and the gurgling of an extraordinary water feature.
52 clients received a total of 110 certificates. Certificates were awarded by Patsy King (General Manager) and Mary Smith (Chairperson). The awarding bodies were F.E.T.A.C., Roscrea 2000 and The Federation of Voluntary Bodies. Certification was achieved in areas such as Woodcraft, Pottery, Horticulture, Gym Training, Cooking, Catering, Laundry, Public Area Cleaning, Computers, Personal and Interpersonal Skills.
A Certificate of Merit was achieved by Paddy King who entered a nationwide art competition sponsored by the Federation of Voluntary Bodies. Paddy painted a lighthouse and entitled it “The Beacon”. He was in the top three in the country, and the Federation wanted his achievement to be recognised.
Afterwards Patsy King congratulated the recipients for their hard work and determination. She also expressed her gratitude to the staff for making the event possible, from preparing each client for certification to helping in the various preparations necessary to make it such a successful day. It was a testament to dedication and teamwork of staff at St. Cronan’s.
There was a fine display of finger foods and refreshments afterwards in the canteen where the recipients, their advocates and staff mingled on this wonderful day of celebration.
